Men’s Shirt Buttons Are On The Right While Women Have Them On The Left. Here‘s The Logic Behind It

Ever wondered why men's shirt buttons are on the right while women have them on the left? There's a reason behind it.

  1. Napoleon Bonaparte's trick to stop women from mocking him

In all of the portraits Napoleon has his right hand tucked into his coat. Women used to tuck their hand in a similar manner to mock and mimic him. To stop this he ordered that all women clothing's to have buttons on the opposite side so that they could no longer do that.

  3. Women were dressed by servants

Men used to dress themselves whereas there were servants to dress the women. Since most of the servants were right handed it became easier for them.

  4. Men sat astride whereas women rode sidesaddles

Men during combat would draw swords from their left hip and the left side had to overlap the right to prevent the hilt of the sword from getting stuck in the coat or shirt.Women, on the other hand, sat sidesaddle to the left, buttoning on the left did not allow any wind to enter into their shirts.

And these reasons proved so useful that the manufacturers and producers wanted to keep the difference.
